Why winter is the busiest time for tree surgeons

We have been in business since 1986 and have seen many winters come and go. Many customers are interested to know if we have a lull in the winter months, and most are surprised when we explain this is actually the busiest time for our tree surgeons.

Any pruning work that is needed on trees and shrubs should mainly be carried out when the plant is in its dormant/rest period as this is when they stop growing to conserve energy. Dormancy is triggered by shorter days and therefore less daylight, or by cooler temperatures, or both, depending on the plant.

This means much of our tree surgery work is carried out in the coldest months, although there are some exceptions to this.

In contrast, tree felling and shrub removals can be carried out at any time of year, apart from during the bird nesting season, which officially runs from February to August.

When is best to schedule tree surgery work?

When planning any tree surgery, we ask people to bear in mind in mind that winter is our peak time. Moreover, our working day is also shortened due to the reduced daylight.

Ideally, we would like to be able to schedule any tree surgery or general pruning works well in advance. Of course, we will always do our best to accommodate everyone but this is worth keeping in mind – especially if the project is time sensitive.
